I as a gamer myself would rather enjoy playing a game then someone writing about playing a game or describing what is happening in a gaming world. I see most gaming novels as RPG’s which what I will be comparing, the gaming experience of an RPG to a novel RPG.

Details that could easily have been shown are now fully written and described because we are placed in an un-established world with new rules to abide by. A game guide and tutorial level let us get used to the controls and rules and from there we follow a premade story that is the general basis of the game. Another important element that makes playing a game much more interesting is the chance for failure, an alternate ending, how we as the player approach the game. People play games with different perspectives. Whether we see are selves as the main character and stand in their shoes or we are a greater force dictating the choices and moves for the characters, it is all based on the game and gamer.  I personally do not enjoy gaming novels because usually the way they handle this perspective usually differs from my own. Games are meant to be thoroughly explored to the point where you are looking into every pot, piece of long grass, and cave looking for hidden treasure. The experience to explore works for a visual game but when they add this element its boring and when they remove this from the novel it no longer feels like a game.
