As a Computer Animation major watching the silent film was very interesting. The fact that the actors were able to convey the message with just action and no dialog is very impressive. I think that as a whole the silent films, while fun to watch, impede on the actors ability to act. Every movement is overly exaggerated and must be slowed down or repeated for the viewer to get the message. In this case it feels more like a play the way they have to act everything out. It was unfortunate that I was unable to read much for this week. I rented out Tin Tin book 1 from the library but I never really got the chance to read much into it. I have read many comics books, manga, and the comics from the newspaper section.  In all honesty I prefer stories in this form. There is something about seeing the images and reading the characters inner thoughts and being able to piece the rest together that really gets to me. I like imagining how the actions would look moving or how the characters sound and interact. Comics are such a versatile media; it is one of the few mediums where we can get the character’s innermost thoughts while also getting action and the regular dialog. I feel like other medias cannot pull all these elements off. In film it is quite hard to get the characters thoughts and feelings and action is difficult to achieve in books.

The Great Gatsby

Overall, I did not enjoy The Great Gatsby at all. Most of the chapters kept dragging on and on with no real direction or real entertainment. The one great mystery was who is Gatsby and not even that question made me motivated to enjoy what I was reading. I heard that the new movie that came out did not follow the plot of the book at all. That is probably for the best since it would have been rich people flirting with each other and spreading boring rumors all while sipping their tea. What annoyed me the most is the reason why we had to read the 1st 7 chapters. These people are supposed to be living the American dream. We as readers get a glimpse at this life style and mentality. What I saw bothered me so. I have never read about a group of people that were so empty and dead inside. They were so unhappy with life; all of them were just going through the motions, and personality wise they were all unappealing and extremely bitter people. To me this books established how empty the American dream really is, being the rich and famous is not all it is meant to be. The last 2 chapters were much more interesting and brought the whole story into context.
